Trombonist, arranger, composer John Fedchock first
came to jazz fans attention when he became a member of the Woody
Herman Band in 1980.
After graduating from high school in his hometown-town
of Highland Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, John went to
Ohio State University to major in music.Following graduation from
Ohio State he then went to Rochester, New York to pursue a master's
at the prestigious Eastman School of Music.
Upon completion of his graduate degree his dream
of working in the Herman band came true, and on July 6th 1980
he was sitting in the middle of the trombone section.Eventually
his talents, both musical as well as organizational were recognized
in his appointment as Woody's musical director.After the success
of Woody's 50th Anniversary Tour and Woody's Gold Star recordings
John left and headed for New York where he worked in clubs, wrote
and formed his own big band.
