Steve Holt

Born in Montreal April 9th 1954 Steve began playing piano at the age of four. By the time he was seventeen he was a self-taught musician and working in clubs, Those years included backing such American stars as Archie Shepp, Larry Coryell, James Moody and Michael Urbaniak.

Formal studies at McGill University and private studies with Kenny Barron gave shape to Steve's concepts. In 1981 he was appointed to McGill's Faculty of Music as instructor of jazz improvisation.

1987 saw him move to Toronto where for a while he held down a steady gig at the Barrister's Bar backing such names as P.J.Perry, Pat LaBarbera and Sam Noto.

During the early 90's he led a trio at the Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto.

Influences include Bill Evans, Kenny Barron and Tete Montoliu.
