Claudio Roditi
Claudio Roditi was born in Rio de Janeiro on may 28th, 1946. His native Brazilian music
upbringing almost took a back seat as he became enamoured with jazz and heard recordings of
Louis Armstrong, Harry James and other American trumpeters, all of this by the age of nine. By
the time he was thirteen, thanks to an American uncle's record collection, he was familiar with
Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.
Arriving in the United States in 1970 to study at Berklee School of Music, his interest grew and
he became influenced by Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan. In 1976 he moved to New York
and began to establish himself in the highly competitive atmosphere.
