Richard Whiteman is a formally
trained pianist whose knowledge of the classical piano tradition
enhances his jazz playing. A Toronto native, Richard studied piano
from the age of eight and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from
the University of Toronto. Self-taught in jazz, he has become
a strong and versatile performer on the Toronto scene in recent
years. He has worked with Jane Bunnett, Norman Marshall Villeneuve,
Neil Swainson, Nick Brignola, Del Dako and the Dave McMurdo Jazz
Orchestra, among others. He has recorded with the Al Henderson
Quartet, the Corry Sobol Sextet and the Del Dako Quartet. His
debut recording "This is Now" was released in 1994.
