Barry Romberg studied at York University (Toronto) in the music programme and took drum lessons from Stan Perry and Pete Magadini, Stuart Hoffman, Al Bleue, Rick Lazar, Bobby Sanabria, and Duduka Defonseca. He took musical theory with Geoff Young and entered jazz workshops with John Gittins and David Mott. He has performed with Gil Evans, Joe Henderson, Kenny Wheeler, Don Pullen, Kenny Drew,Jr, Bill Mays, Hank Jones, Jane Bunnett, Peter Appleyard, Mike Murley, NOJO and many others. He has recorded with Dave Young, Reg Schwager, John MacLeod, Brian Dickinson, Al Henderson, Moe Koffman and Stephan Bauer. His influences span a broad spectrum of people: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Art Pepper, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Philly Joe Jones Buddy Rich, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Keith Moon, Elvis Presley and Albert Einstien.
He joined the Moe Koffman Quintet in 1995 and also works with the bands
of Victor Bateman, Michael Occhipinti, Bernie Senensky, Roy Styffe,
Stefan Bauer and Nancy Walker, and finds time to teach drums.
